1st off let me say that this is a great debate, and the reason why this is such a great debate is because @ Lonnie although I am on the opposite end of your point, I totally get where your coming from.
My thing is this: knowledge is power, however the one thing that is more powerful than knowledge is self-knowledge. Knowledge is knowing, and self-knowledge is understanding. In order to obtain true wisdom you need a mixture of both knowledge and self-knowledge.
The part where I am agree with you is, yes! I do think that people can be poisoned by history, but that is only when history is being told falsely, or when only one side of the story is being told. there are different versions of history depending on who is narrating the story. I think that instead of not telling our kids about slavery, we should tell them from our perspective. tell about Nat turner, Fredrick Douglass, Harriet Tubman, Martin Luther king Jr, tell them about the Amistad. tell them how we were kings and Queens before slaves, and about how we fought so hard to overcome it.
