Televangelist Joel Osteen is facing some backlash and criticism for not opening up his 16,000 seat church to the people of Houston, who are facing some very hard and desperate times right now. After public pressure, he has since made his church available for shelter.
And so my question to you guys is: are the churches doing enough for their communities or can / should the church do more?+1August 29, 2017 at 3:11 pm #15123Lashawn WilliamstonParticipant
I just ran across this article, I’m hearing several different stories. However, I don’t look at it from the standpoint of him being a pastor/Christian or whomever he identifies as, I look at it from a humanity point! Being that you are in a position to help someone PERIOD, why wouldn’t you???? It was very low of him as an human being to turn away those in need. Now if you look at this on a spiritual level we can go on and on about the many reasons why he should have helped but I’m coming from a kind hearted HUMAN BEING standpoint.+2August 30, 2017 at 11:34 am #15126Mask AppealParticipant
@Lashawn I hear you. You make some great point. As a human it is the right and humane thing to do.
The reason why I look at it from a religious and spiritual point and why I think that you’ll be letting him off the hook if you dont look at it that way is because, he is a multi millionaire. Unlike me and you we have a regular 9-5, and in his case he makes his living off of the tithes and offerings that people give him. That church was paid for by all of the people in the community and all of the tens of thousands of people who support his ministry. So that church belongs to the people just as much as it belongs to him.
You have good humans and you have bad humans, so sometimes the humane thing to do isn’t always the right thing to do, depending on the type of heart you have… But one thing for sure is that the Godly thing to do, should always be the right think… and Regardless of whatever religion you serve, I believe that we are all children of God. And as a pastor you gotta hold his ass accountable. Because his ass will surely hold you accountable by telling you that your soul is gonna burn in hell the moment you sin.+1August 30, 2017 at 3:55 pm #15137
