The song “We shall overcome” was the soundtrack of the civil right movement. Many people have heard it, but few understand it. Back then the goal wasn’t to give up or overpower. The goal was to overcome.
Now a days, I think that people are either too lazy or they are overly conscious and are always blaming the system.
My definition of overcoming is when you acknowledge the fact that there are hurdles, obstacles, and struggles, yet despite of all those roadblocks, you still try to prosper. If life gives you an excuse to fail, it doesnt mean that you must give in to that excuse. You can alway strive to over come.
To overcome is when you think that you have run out of options and you believe in the moment, that you need to just give up – but something [a voice, a feeling, a spirit or a presence, etc] tells you or makes you feel that it’s not time to give in or give up.
To me overcoming is defeating the odds when the odds are not in your favor. When you have the choice to become another statistic, but instead you rise over the odds and leap above the hurdles stacked against you
